Niko and I went to San Diego to celebrate Dad's 70th Birthday! Dad was with Coel and Shan in San Diego for a tournament/qualifier Coel was in. I hadn't seen Coel or Shan since my cousin Courtney's wedding (so probably about 10 yrs ago!).
When we first got into San Diego Nick picked us up at the airport and we met up with John and Loretta for breakfast on the water in Downtown San Diego. Beautiful view, and fun to see the fisherman come in for the morning. We saw a huge haul come in, with some fish that were in the 150-200 pound range. Pretty cool to see all of them come in and how excited the fishermen were, and watching the process of bringing them in, weighing them, labeling, etc. Kai would've loved it. After we went with them to walk around the beach and later went to watch a soccer game at the local bar/grill. Niko loved watching the soccer game with everyone!
Then we made our way over to the hotel we were staying in, also dad's hotel. We only saw dad briefly because he wasn't feeling great (he was still testing positive for Covid-yuck). The next morning we were able to watch Coel participate in the qualifier. He was not happy with his score, and definitely didn't do as well as he usually does. Poor guy. After, we grabbed some Italian food, and Shan made Dad sit at a different table so we wouldn't get Covid (she is very paranoid about that!).
After the qualifier we actually switched over to staying at Nick's place, and Dad/Shan/Coel ended up renting an Air Bnb a block or two away from Nick's place. It was perfect. We had fun going bowling, mini golfing, and just hanging out with them. Niko and Coel really hit it off and got a long really well. Seems like they have similar personalities.
We hung out for a few days and ended the last day going to a nice restaurant where Dad could get some delicious Prime Rib and we could celebrate his 70th Birthday. Such a fun trip and I'm so glad Niko and I were able to go do that and spend time with family :)
