In September we got a big surprise when we saw what was causing me my stomach bugginess. Our ultrasound showed a little baby that was not 7 weeks along, but in fact over 12 wks along!Ever since then she's kept us on our toes, and YES I said SHE!I was thoroughly surprised when I went in for the gender ultrasound and found out we were expecting a girl!
Fast forward, mid-December. I went to see the specialist in Idaho Falls who did an extremely detailed ultrasound and found a teeny tiny kidney. It was sad. There was one beautiful looking one, and another shriveled looking one that was in the wrong place of the body and was full of cysts and fluid. Of course the doctor knew I would be confused and nervous and was so amazingA few weeks later they did the ultrasound where they check and make sure everything looks good. That was in November, where they announced that little was missing a kidney?! They decided it would be best to go see a specialist. They assured me everything would be ok, and people only need one kidney, BUT they wanted to follow up just to make sure.
He explained everything well and wrote words down too for me to look up so I could get research. He adv she had a pelvic kidney and that it was either low functioning or not functioning. He also explained they'd watch it in hopes the status on it would change. If not he advised he'd get us hooked up with primary children's hospital in salt lake where they would perform surgery to remove the kidney in her first year of life. Wow, talk about a rough start to life! However, it makes me happy knowing once that's taken care of she'll be like any other kid! (Except that she won't be able to donate a kidney obviously)
To add one more twist Niko & I got chicken pox in December as well. The clinic I go to for the pregnancy had never had to deal with a prego woman with chicken pox and so they treated me like I had the plague...which was understandable. They had me come in the back door before the clinic was open with my hands washed and mask on to do my bloodwork. They were surprised to find the active chickenpox virus in my system and thought I would have an immunity to it, which apparently I didn't get as a kid??? Some people, like me, never develop an immunity to the virus. So I got put on antibiotics and got labeled as high risk pregnancy, and that's where we are at right now.
The doctors are keeping a close eye on baby because the virus most likely had some kind of effect on her, which in turn might affect her growth.
So what does that mean for us? It means in January we'll have our sixth ultrasound done to keep tabs on her, and starting the beginning of February I'll be going in for check ups twice a week to check on baby. If the baby shows any negative signs at all they'll take the baby early. Doctor said be ready for her to be delivered as early as 31 weeks! It's been a crazy ride and keeps getting crazier. Now that I got everything updated it'll be easier to keep everyone in the "know" and to keep track of this to reflect on later on for myself!

what an adorable little baby bump!! Praying all goes well!
