How it Happened:
Wednesday was like any other day, I worked in the morning and did our normal routine, it was very typical. In the evening after Niko was asleep I was just playing around on my kindle when the baby was kicking me like crazy! He was shifting around so much that it was too distracting to be on my kindle so I stood up and walked into the kitchen trying to make the baby get in a more comfortable position for both us. I put my head on the kitchen wall and all the sudden my water just broke. I was VERY confused because I wasn't sure if I peed myself, but I didn't even have the urge :). Not to mention, he wasn't due for another 4wks on the 31st. Luckily, I was in the kitchen so I just mopped it up, but stayed in there just in case. It continued to come for an hour, even after I emptied my bladder so I made the necessary preparations (luckily I already had a hospital bag packed with a list of last minute things to not forget) and I got to the hospital by midnight. I was so thankful I had taken a shower that night and eaten a bowl of cereal because I remember last time I was sooo hungry during delivery.
Delivery Story:
I was only dilated 1 cm, was having no contractions and had a thick cervix. That was such a let down and not a very promising start for an attempt at a VBAC. They got me all ready with the IV (worst part, I swear) and said they'd check in a few hours but the doctor was letting me know things needed to progress soon because my water broke and so the baby needed to be delivered within 24 hrs or so. At 2:35 I was definitely starting to have contractions and I got so excited even if they did start making things a little uncomfortable. They gave me more time, and the dr. came in at 8 o'clock in the morning to check on me. I had been feeling the contractions die off, so I was prepared to hear bad news. I was still 1cm dilated with very weak contractions. So after 10 hrs of no change in dilating we decided to do a repeat C Section. I had really not wanted to do this, but inside I knew I shouldn't put myself through the waiting game since they weren't allowed to induce me in any way. It just didn't seem likely that it was going to happen. From the time I told Dr. Evans I wanted a c section, the whole c section prep moved very quick. In fact, it scared me and I had a small panic attack right before they wheeled me into the surgery room. Dr. Evans made me feel so much better though with his humor and his great comment "Don't worry I just watched the instructional video, I'm ready it'll be fine." He was truly the perfect doctor for me for the c section. My anesthesiologist was great too, so informative and concerned. The spinal anesthesia was only slightly uncomofortable, much better than the IV and my epidural with Niko. Surgery went smooth, everything looked good and I felt great the whole time, no nausea, no oxygen problems, no nothing.
Baby Kai:
Kailand James Dunkley was born Thursday Mar 3rd 2012 at 8:39 a.m. He weighed a whopping (jk) 5lbs 10 oz. and was 18 inches long. He didn't look scrawny at all and looked good, but they ran him to the NICU just in case (36 week-ers have to stay in the NICU for atleast 6hrs to be monitored).
